Introducing Us...

Introducing Us...

churchpaintSomething you might like to know about us is that we are not a building of mortar and stones. We are a building of people and as you have seen already, we are a building of people of all different ages. But we’re not just any people, we’re God’s people. Read on and get to know a bit about us.

oldbootWe believe church ought to be a bit like an old boot really. If the Church (God’s people) don’t have any scuffs and bruises, then it probably means we’re not trying. If the Church is simply a monoculture of young people, we’re probably not trying. If the Church is ‘choka block’ with oldies and no young people, we’re probably not trying.

Picture3We reckon, often the reason the Church is full of one age group and not another is because we have become that attached to the way we want things done that everyone who thinks differently has left us! That’s more like a new shoe than an old boot. A new shoe suggests that it hasn’t been worn and if it remains new, then it probably means we don’t know each other and we haven’t tried too either. It could also mean that it only ever fits a small range of feet. In which case, like we said, everyone who disagrees with us has left.

We want to be a group of people that know each other in our differences but still hang out together regardless of those differences. This is why we need to be like a boot that is scuffed and worn. You see, we believe that you can wear a suit to church or you can wear thongs. We believe you can sing hymns at church or you can sing songs. It’s not the style that’s important - we’ll all differ there! It’s the message that never changes. It’s the good news that we’re here to preserve, the truth that Jesus died to forgive sinners and rose again to glory, seated at the right hand of Almighty God. It’s the Scriptures we want to preserve, not our particular style or way of doing things. We know it feels easier to have things our own way, but we know Jesus calls us to serve, not to be served.

One last thing...

One last thing......

bootpaint3There’s one last thing to walk through before we turn the page. We believe in One God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus is the Son, the fullest revelation of God and so if you want to know God, you need to know Jesus. We believe Jesus died and rose again as is written about him. We believe in confessing our sins to God and trust that Jesus has made it possible for those sins to be forgiven. We believe the Holy Spirit living in us is necessary for a relationship with God. We believe all those who trust in Jesus will be granted eternal life in the presence of God. Finally, we believe this is the best news anyone could ever hear and so we throw our lot in with all those who want to speak this good news to the nations. If you’d like a big word, we’re Evangelicals.
